Operator interview - João Mendes Pedro, IPTV Business Manager for Sonaecom

"VOD was really the key application for customers to move from cable"

In this third instalment in a series of video interviews conducted with high-profile operators at the recent IPTV World Forum in London, we hear from João Mendes Pedro, IPTV Business Manager for Portuguese telco Sonaecom. Snr. Mendes discusses the reasons for installing a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network that can offer a compelling IPTV service in a country where cable has over 40% penetration, including unlimited bandwidth and multi-room services, and the "killer application" its own VOD service is proving to be.

Sonaecom announced last February that it is investing €240mn in an FTTH network that will pass over 1mn homes and cover around 25% of the country's population by completion
