Pay-TV services again delivered a much-needed prop for France Telecom/Orange in the third quarter of this year, as overall revenues declined once more due to increasing competition and price erosion in France and other countries.
France Telecom-Orange saw its pay-TV customer base (served by IPTV and satellite platforms) rise 20% on an annual basis in the first half of this year to reach 5.5mn.
France Telecom-Orange is to shut its Orange Sport service in France at the end of June, citing CEO Stéphane Richard’s recent decision to rebalance the group’s content strategy by reinforcing its content aggregation and distribution business.
