Swisscom has revealed plans to start rolling out a fibre-optic network in the city of Winterthur this month, in coordination with Winterthur Public Utilities.
A cooperation agreement is expected to be finalised between Swisscom and Winterthur Public Utilities over the next few months, after which the City Council and Winterthur Public Utilities are expected to submit a bill to parliament and local residents, describing the key commercial aspects as well as the timetable for rolling out the network. The City Council and local residents are expected to be able to vote on the bill this autumn.
Four fibres are expected to be laid per household for the network, with all service providers to receive non-discriminatory access to the network, even if they have not invested in the network themselves.
