Pioneer Telephone Cooperative selects Minerva middleware

US telco Pioneer Telephone Cooperative has selected Minerva Networks' IPTV middleware platform as part of its migration from a legacy third-party system.

Minerva's iTVManager supports the delivery of high-definition TV, digital video recording, whole-home digital recording and video-on-demand.  The platform also features a Widget engine that enables the integration of applications including RSS news feeds, stocks, weather and traffic information, and popular social networking services.

“We are leveraging Minerva’s platform to deliver next-generation television services to our subscribers,” said Scott Ulsaker, Manager of Pioneer Long Distance, Broadband and Video Services at Pioneer Telephone.  “Minerva iTVManager provides the rich feature set, reliability and flexibility we need in order to offer a differentiated product.”

Pioneer Telephone Cooperative provides communications services to over 140,000 customers in 76 communities across 30 Oklahoma counties in western Oklahoma and 14 counties in southern Kansas.

Anon is wrong. Pardon the overused quote ripoff: "The reports of the death of rural coops have been greatly exaggerated". Rural coops exist precisely because Verizon, AT&T, etc. did not want to do business, and folks had to fend for themselves. The coops will never have the sub numbers of the big guys, but that's not the point. Many publications (IPTV News excluded) seems to miss this, and therefore the misinformation abounds.
