Magyar Telekom's OzoneNetwork expands services

Hungarian telco Magyar Telekom has expanded the range of services available on its platforms from thematic TV channel OzoneNetwork to include regular weather reports available on all three screens of TV, PC and mobile.

In addition, subscribers of the telco's IPTV service 'T-Home TV' can also watch any of its shows free of charge up to seven days after their initial broadcast.  OzoneNetwork's programming addresses weather, climate change, and the relationship of man and nature.

"Through the introduction of the multiplatform channels in October, television became the most dynamic element of Magyar Telekom's three-screen strategy," said Róbert Pataki, Chief Strategy and Corporate Development Officer at Magyar Telekom.  "In 2009, we managed to significantly increase our share of Hungary's TV programme broadcasting market, where we are now the second largest provider. By that, we made a major step towards being market leaders in each and every activity we pursue, including TV program broadcasting, as set forth by our strategy.

"We plan to make interactive applications part of both own channels, by means of which we can couple our integrated product portfolio with the opportunities offered by television services," added Mr. Pataki.  "The TV channels also help us to reach customers with as many favourable offers as possible through all three screens."

The telco reached a total of 583,936 customers for its pay-TV services in Hungary across all platforms (DTH, cable and IPTV) by the end of the third quarter of last year, up from 546,000 at the end of June 2009.  Of these, cable TV accounted for the majority with 409,197 subscribers, while its new DTH service (launched late in 2008) had 121,563 customers by the end of the three-month period, and its IPTV service 'T-Home TV' had 53,176 customers, up from 44,032 at the end of June 2009.
