Greek telco OTE has selected and deployed the Encryptonite ONE System from US firm SecureMedia to protect content on its new IPTV service 'conn-x', formally launched last month.
The new IPTV service delivers over 30 Greek and foreign broadcast channels and a considerable video-on-demand library (details of which were revealed earlier this month), as well as interactive features such as time-shifting and PVR services.
SecureMedia has made considerable ground in the worldwide IPTV market over the past 12 months, signing contracts with operators as diverse as Bulgaria's Megalan Networks, Kazakhstan's JSC Kazakhtelecom, the UK's Inuk Networks, Ireland's 3PlayPlus and Clarksville, Tennessee Department of Electricity of the US.
OTE will gradually introduce the new IPTV service in all major cities across Greece in 2009, the company has revealed. The telco reported in its 3Q08 results that it had 924,000 DSL customers in Greece, giving it a market share of around 60%.
