"DLNA has had a big uptake during the last two years"

Klaus As part of the run-up to the Connected Home World Summit in London this September, we speak to Klaus Milczewsky, Senior Manager for Innovation & Technology at Deutsche Telekom and one of the headline speakers at the event.

What plans does Deutsche Telekom have to offer connected home services to its customers?

Deutsche Telekom’s big vision is the Connected Life scenario - our motto is “Life is for sharing”.  This vision includes enabling people to access and share their digital assets independently of their location and the devices being used.

How will the IPTV service 'T-Home Entertain' fit into this vision?

Our IPTV service is an integral building block of the Connected Life scenario, and some first apps are available for direct TV viewing today.

Do you expect German consumers to rapidly adopt such services?

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) has had a big uptake during the last two years. As CE vendors and PC and mobile software platforms integrate these functions, we believe usage will increase significantly. In addition, local networking utilities such as WiFi n-based solutions, powerline and Gigabit Ethernet have made their way to the market.

Why do you think connected home services have so far struggled to take off?

The service portfolio will develop as personal usage patterns evolve. The first time customers successfully display their new iPhone photos on a big TV screen without even connecting a cable, they will understand and demand more sophisticated solutions to become part of their daily life. We at Deutsche Telekom group are focusing a lot on fulfilling this kind of demand.
