BT had reached 481,000 subscribers for its hybrid DTT+IPTV service 'BT Vision' by the end of the second quarter of this year, adding 14,000 customers in the three month period, with stronger gains expected next quarter thanks to the launch of Sky Sports channels on the service.
The company also recently passed its first major milestone in its fibre rollout, passing over 1.5mn premises with the network, and is now running at an average rate of around 100,000 premises passed every week. There are an estimated 4,000 cabinets ready to provide fibre-based broadband services, and 135 exchanges are already accepting orders.
Consumer Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for the second quarter of this year was GB£ 314 (US$ 491), up GB£ 5 from the previous quarter, increasing mainly due to the increasing take-up of broadband services across its customer base. BT added 96,000 new broadband customers in the three months to June, and now has 40% of the UK retail broadband market.
Total revenues across all operations and markets for the second quarter of this year reached GB£ 5.006bn, down 4% year-on-year, while profits before tax increased 17% by the same comparison to reach GB£ 446mn.
