Korea Telecom (KT) had more than 1mn subscribers for its IPTV service 'Qook TV' by the end of 2009, up 89% from one year previously, with the company currently dominating South Korea's IPTV market.
KT's triple-play package 'Qook' had a reported 1.17mn subscribers by the end of 2009, adding 265,000 customers in the fourth quarter of the year. The company is reportedly planning to invest up to KRW 1.7 trillion (US$ 1.45bn) in its IPTV platform by the end of 2012, and is thought to be aiming for 3mn subscribers by the end of the period.
Rivals SK Telecom and LG Dacom meanwhile are estimated to have signed up around 400,000 and 300,000 subscribers respectively for their own IPTV services.
