Amino posts loss, signs new customer

UK set-top box specialist Amino Technologies has posted a pre-tax loss of GB£ 8.73mn (US$ 13.63mn) for the financial year ended November 2009, compared to a profit of GB£ 2.2mn for the previous year, with the company citing the global market downturn and its effect on the pace of IPTV deployments, as well as industry-wide component shortages.

Revenues for the year totalled GB£ 25.29mn, down from GB£ 31.9mn one year previously.  "2009 was a challenging year for Amino, resulting in a disappointing financial outcome," said Keith Todd, Chairman of Amino Technologies.  "We have worked hard during the year to build a strong base for 2010, improving our product, sales and marketing and cutting cost, against a backdrop of the global market downturn and industry-wide component shortages.  These improvements are already yielding results with more of a robust demand in H2 and into the start of this year, as evidenced by improvements in our sales booking performance."

The Cambridge-based company has also announced a "substantial" new contract with a tier 1 European operator to deliver hybrid/OTT Intel-based media centres in support of the operator's new broadband TV service.  The service is to be powered by the new Amino Freedom DVB-T hybrid media centre.
