Portugal's Optimus selects Orca content discovery solution

Portuguese telco Optimus (until recently operating under the name Sonaecom) has selected Orca Interactive to deliver its content discovery system COMPASS for the telco's IPTV service 'Optimus Clix'.

The content discovery solution gives personalised recommendations for both live and VOD content, as well as an explore mode, where viewers can experience personalised navigation through content that is related to content they have watched and liked.  The system also includes advanced tools for targeted operator promotions, as well as tracking and analysis of recommendations' effectiveness.

"We are delighted to be the first TV operator launching a personalised recommendations service for both live and VOD content", said Ana Paula Marques, board member of Optimus.  "The new service will proactively assist our subscribers to find content that is interesting for them out of the huge variety that we provide.  We will optimise our revenues from the existing content inventory, as well as improve our competitive position by offering our viewers an innovative, superior TV experience that will improve their satisfaction from the service and reduce churn."

The telco launched its IPTV platform in April 2007 as part of a triple-play package. While it has not released subscriber data for the IPTV service, telecoms regulator Anacom estimates that its share of the pay-TV market is less than 1%. The service is available to more than 1.6 million homes.
