Greek telco OTE has selected Pirelli Broadband Solutions to deliver two different models of high-definition set-top boxes for the telco's IPTV service 'Conn-x TV'.
OTE has selected Pirelli's P.VU2000 high-definition IPTV and P.VU2600 high-definition PVR models, which support H.264 decoding and TR-069 remote manageability, as well as the SecureMedia Conditional Access System, and will interoperate with Ericsson's MAS IPTV platform. The units are part of a family of modular set-top boxes which offer hybrid DVB-T/IPTV support and optional capabilities such as Personal Video Recording, embedded wireless connectivity, and media sharing.
OTE had attracted around 10,000 subscribers to its IPTV service by the end of September 2009, although it is not yet believed to be marketing the service hard; its big TV push is expected to come when it launches its DTH platform. OTE has said that it may explore the possibility of launching a hybrid DTH and IPTV service, but it will first gauge the success of its stand-alone DTH platform.
