Telekom Malaysia to launch high-speed broadband later this month

Telekom Malaysia has confirmed that it plans to launch its new High Speed Broadband (HSBB) retail services on March 24th, with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to be the guest of honour at the launch ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

The new retail packages will offer triple-play services of voice, video (linear and on-demand IPTV) and high-speed broadband.  The services will first become available in the four areas of Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Bangsar.  By the end of 2012, the telco aims to have reached 1.3mn premises with the new network.

Total expenditure on the project is estimated at MYR 11.3bn (US$ 3.4bn), with Telekom Malaysia investing MYR 8.9bn, and the Malaysian government to provide the remaining MYR 2.4bn.
