Moldovan telco Moldtelecom has revealed in its full-year 2009 results that it invested around MDL 55mn (US$ 4.4mn) last year in its new IPTV service, which it launched late last month.
The company also revealed that it invested around MDL 109.8mn last year in laying fibre-optic cabling to support its planned rollout of high-speed broadband services. In total, the company estimates that it invested MDL 153.3mn in its fixed-line network last year.
Moldtelecom expects to add a video-on-demand library and other interactive features to its new IPTV service shortly. Activation of the service is free, with customers who sign up for a 24 month contract paying nothing until April 2010. Customers who sign up for a 24-month contract will also receive a free home gateway and set-top box.
Moldtelecom currently has 130,000 DSL subscribers and over 500 customers for its fibre-based broadband services.
