EPB Fiber Optics, a municipally-owned Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network in the US city of Chattanooga (Tennessee), has confirmed its intentions to launch a 150 Mbps symmetrical residential Internet offer later this month.
EPB already offers 100 Mbps symmetrical connections to over 100,000 homes and businesses in the city, and estimates that access to the FTTH network will be available to everyone in its service area of 170,000 homes and businesses by the end of this year. The company plans to offer a number of services to residents over its fibre network, including IPTV, smart grid functions, Internet and telephony.
"The kind of network that is being built in Chattanooga today is exactly what companies like Google are imploring cities in this country to focus their efforts on," said Ron Littlefield, Mayor of Chattanooga. "Though it may seem surprising to some, Chattanooga is light years ahead when it comes to advanced communications availability."
