The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Technical Committee has approved the formation of an EBU Study Group on 3DTV, with the aim of allowing EBU members with an interest in 3DTV to find a focal point for the exchange of information and experience.

In addition, common user requirements will be formulated, relevant to each part of the media value chain (production, distribution and consumer), and communicated to the technical standards bodies such as Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB), International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).

The 3DTV Study Group is expected to have its first meeting in March of this year.
