This year’s Informa / SCTE Annual Golf Day was once again held at The Oxfordshire Golf Club near Thame, with 13 teams totalling 52 players taking part (writes Barry Killengrey, Senior Account Executive at Informa Telecoms & Media).
The stunning setting of this championship course didn’t faze the players on the day. The golf venue has a certain aura about it, immediately sensed from the moment you drove through the entrance to the clubhouse, but also during the walk from the putting green to the first tee. With manicured fairways and greens like carpet this certainly gave the players a desire to play their best golf. This US PGA-standard 7,400-yard championship golf course, boasting lots of undulation and many lakes, offered a different challenge for the players.
The day started in fairly benign conditions, with a few clouds about as well as some sunshine, but this course is justly renowned for its exposure to mother nature, with winds increasing during the day. However, this didn’t affect the players this year, who set their sights high and ably showed their talents during this tough day at the office.
For the team event, defending champions NDS struggled to make it three consecutive wins, with Harmonic eventually triumphing with 122 points, followed closely by Amino with 108 points, while third position was secured by Flomatic/Teleste with 107 points, and fourth place went to White Oak Warriors with 106 points.

Gary Kelly from The Harmonic Team put a solid round together and blitzed the rest of the field with 46 points to secure the 2010 Individual Trophy:

All prizes were presented by Ian Hemming, CEO Informa Telecoms & Media, and SCTE President Roger Blakeway.
We did see some majestic driving from Andrew Compton (above) from Amino on the 10th hole, who despite the stiff breeze won Longest Drive.
Hole 13 was possible the toughest pin position of all the par 3 holes, with water surrounding the green and cross winds providing the ultimate test for the players; Dimitar Radev (above) from Blizoo fired a sublime tee shot closest to 2ft, winning the Nearest the Pin contest.
The 18th hole also stirred a few laughs this year, with an additional accurate Boom Drive with an huge oversized head that even the best would have struggled to execute.
The 18th hole Most Accurate Drive was won by Stephen Byrne (above) from Limelight.
The day came to an end with the players thoroughly enjoying the experience; the only subsequent obstacle to overcome being a fantastic three-course dinner and prize giving.

The 2011 event is already in discussion, with many players having left unfinished business to attend to both on and off the golf course.
