Uruguayan telco Antel has launched its Next-Generation Network (NGN) during a ceremony held at the company's headquarters in Montevideo.
The new network is described as being capable of delivering quad-play services, and is also expected to offer development opportunities to Uruguayan businesses, thanks to value-added services which have been tailored to local needs.
Antel reportedly plans to use the new network to offer new services to residential and business customers, and especially to small and medium enterprises, such as video calls to both fixed-line and mobile devices.
The country's President José Mujica made the first official video call over the new network, which was broadcast in high-definition to attendees of the launch event.
