Slovenian telco Telekom Slovenije doubled the number of subscribers to its IPTV service 'SiOL TV' during 2008, reaching 84,615 customers by the end of the year, and giving a 52.7% share of the Slovenian IPTV market.
The telco reports that during the course of last year, it updated the range of services and content available on the service, including high-definition broadcast and on-demand content, as well as expanding the number of games available and upgrading the user interface and EPG. Telekom Slovenije adds that future development will be focused on personalisation, content diversity, service sophistication and platform convergence.
The Slovenian incumbent also continued with the rollout of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in 2008, increasing the number of FTTH subscriber connections from 1,451 to 15,426 during the twelve month period. Its total number of broadband subscribers (including xDSL) rose from 173,103 to 200,795 during the same period.
The Slovenian Agency for Post and Electronic Communications (APEK) recently estimated that rival telco T-2 accounted for 43.5% of Slovenian IPTV subscribers at the end of 2008, while Amis and Tus Telekom held 2.9% and 0.9% respectively.
