What will the discussion involve?
If, as the old adage goes, "Content is King," then Quality is surely Queen. It all started as broadband operators scrambled to achieve parity with their cable and satellite competitors by offering multi-channel television and video on demand. But now, consumers are expecting something more, and one of the key ingredients toward meeting and exceeding expectations is video quality. As service providers move from basic TV services toward the future converged services world, in which content is multi-purposed and delivered to multiple consumer devices over multiple service platforms, how will operators guarantee a top-notch video experience? This session provides valuable insights as to what it takes to achieve high video quality, and more importantly, what it takes to maintain it. IPTV test, measurement and monitoring systems are an essential part of the mix. Who's to benefit? Not only do consumers get a better picture, but video quality keeps the content owners happy and helps them maintain their own high standards.
- The emergence of new content delivery models, which must be accommodated by enabling technologies and tested for functionality and performance.
- New service types, including high-definition television, interactive games, and both peer-to-peer and file-based video data delivery
- Risks and opportunities relating to IPTV test, measurement and monitoring include:
- Scalability: IPTV TM&M platforms must prove their ability to scale, just as is the case for other IPTV infrastructure elements.
- Quality and performance may put subscriber and content relationships at risk, or save them.
- IPTV service quality can suffer from the presence of unwanted traffic in the operator's network, or benefit from the lack thereof - Test & measurement and monitoring can make the difference.
- Specific recommendations as to which TM&M technical standards are important, and which ones should be used.
- We also will offer recommendations for IPTV test methodologies, solutions and their implementation.
- The IPTV TM&M product category has become quite crowded. How can we winnow the wheat from the chaff?
- What happens to video quality as a deployment adds services, features and complexity as it scales, and how can test measurement and monitoring make a difference?
