Lucent will also support Telefonica’s IPTV roll-outs worldwide, with its services arm (Lucent Worldwide Services) serving as the prime network integrator for end-to-end multi-vendor IPTV solutions. The markets covered initially will be the Czech Republic, Brazil and Chile but this will be extended to other territories. In support of these efforts, Lucent is also establishing IPTV R&D centres in the Spanish cities Madrid and Huesca, plus Sao Paulo in Brazil. In its role as master network integrator, Lucent Worldwide Services has been handed responsibility for supporting every aspect of the IP multimedia service launches from designing the video network to integrating multi-vendor solutions, managing the deployment and maintaining the service. The company will also market the Imagenio IPTV platform solution to the broader global service provider community. “This comprehensive agreement will help Telefonica remain a leading provider of innovative IPTV services,” declares Vicente San Miguel, general director of infrastructure and information systems at Telefonica Group. “Lucent has proven to be an exceptional partner as we launched and expanded our Imagenio IPTV service in Spain.
