Sampo's Next Generation IP-Connected LCD TVs Access Web Entertainment Through Oregan Media Browser

July 25, 2006 – Oregan Networks, a digital media delivery software provider, has entered into a licensing agreement with Sampo of Taiwan, a flat-panel television manufacturer, who supplies products to well-known global high street CE brands, such as Sharp, as well as targeting domestic Taiwanese and US markets with its own-branded HD-Ready and network enabled TVs.

The contract is another step towards the fulfilment of Oregan's strategy for enabling the "ubiquitous web" experience with its browsing solution that is custom-designed for the specifics of the Non-PC embedded device environment.

Powered by Oregan's Internet standards-based solution, the devices will offer multiple media entertainment and content sourcing options, including broadband infotainment and access to home network photos, music and movies, stored on networked PCs, home gateways and NAS devices.

Tom Chen, General Manager of Sampo Digital R&D commented, 'In order to stay competitive, Sampo needs to offer more than High Definition readiness in its LCD TV products. IP connectivity will soon become a part of the everyday experience on a wide range of consumer electronics, including TVs. Sampo has selected Oregan's media browser based not only on the sophistication and maturity of its TV browsing software, but also due to completeness of its media client solution, allowing us to incorporate web VOD (Video On Demand) and DMA (Digital Media Adaptor) functionalities into the higher-end range of products.'

'We are pleased to be working with Sampo on their line of sophisticated LCD TVs, enabling enhanced Internet services and usability through an XHTML and Macromedia Flash-based unified user interface,' said Tony Yang, Taiwan Business Manager at Oregan Networks. He added, 'Features, such as advertising-driven content surfing, Internet Electronic Programming Guides, recommendation engines and IP telephony, delivered through Oregan's solution, will enable Sampo and its customers to effortlessly design branded web entertainment into the TV experience.'
