China Telecom subsidiary prepares for IPTV with Redback routers May 24 and 25th, 2006 - Guangdong Telecom, the largest subsidiary of China Telecom Group, has selected Redback’s SmartEdge family of routers to expand its consumer and business broadband network for next-generation data, voice and video offerings including IPTV.
Guangdong Telecom plans to use Redback’s SmartEdge routers to service-enable its existing xDSL and Ethernet access networks. Meanwhile, Henan Communication Corporation, one of the largest service providers in China and a subsidiary of China Netcom, has already deployed the company’s SmartEdge family of routers for a major network build-out that supports broadband services for business and residential customers throughout China’s Henan province. Henan Province is home to over 100 million residents - giving it the largest population of China’s provinces. SmartEdge provides the infrastructure to offer value-added services including high-speed Internet, Video on Demand, online gaming and MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) VPN (Virtual Private Network) connectivity. Redback says its SmartEdge routers were selected because of their flexibility and reliable subscriber management and edge routing capabilities. The scalable SmartEdge solution also met vigorous network design requirements as Henan Communication plans to expand its subscriber base by nearly 50 per cent in the near future. |
