China Telecom Shanghai Scales with Juniper Networks TX Matrix Core Routers

February 16th, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. today announced that China Telecom Shanghai, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Telecom, is expanding its core IP network with Juniper Networks T-series core routing platforms, including the TX Matrix multi-terabit router.

The T-series platforms will be added to Shanghai Telecom's existing base of Juniper Networks E- and M-series routing platforms and will provide the additional capacity, reliability and scale required to support increased demand for advanced IP-based services.

"As innovative providers such as Shanghai Telecom stay ahead of the market opportunities by introducing new services, the core is an important part of their network upgrades," said Eric Yu, Juniper's country manager for Greater China. "The T-series and the TX Matrix deliver capacity and non-disruptive scalability, powering Shanghai's growth momentum with high-performance, advanced IP services."

Shanghai Telecom currently uses Juniper Networks M-series multiservice platforms in smaller core sites and previously deployed the E-series Broadband Services Routers. The E-series routing platforms support Shanghai's ADSL subscribers, providing the advanced routing capabilities that will enable Shanghai Telecom's IPTV service.

Shipping since April 2002, the T-series core routing platform is currently deployed in over 100 service provider production networks worldwide. The TX Matrix combines multiple T640 platforms to deliver multi-terabit scale in the smallest available footprint and protects customers' investments, enabling a lower total cost of ownership. The TX Matrix combines high density, rack-optimized platforms with modular, feature-rich software and the ability to interconnect increasing numbers of chassis as a single routing entity, ensuring the greatest amount of capacity in a design that best utilizes the customer's facility.

With over 100 T-series customers worldwide and over 1,000 units deployed, Juniper Networks is a leader in next generation core routing. The T-series leverages JUNOS, the industry's only operating system that combines proven reliability with a development cycle that delivers continuous, non-disruptive feature and functionality enhancements.
