Versatel Selects Verimatrix to Secure its IPTV Dutch Premiership Football Broadcasts

November 9th , 2005 - Verimatrix, a leading developer of IPTV content protection and security solutions, today announced that Versatel Telecom International NV has deployed the Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS) to protect its recently launched IPTV service, which includes exclusive live Dutch national football, against piracy and cloning.

The IPTV exclusive sports content is part of Versatel’s triple-play strategy that includes broadband voice and media, data and Internet services to more than one million customers. Verimatrix developed VCAS as a software-based content security solution built on the principles of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and X.509 digital certificates, which can be combined with digital watermarks. For the live national football broadcasts, Versatel has deployed Verimatrix’s Real-Time Encryption Server (RTES) for live streaming video and VCAS for Video on Demand (VOD).

OTT of Seoul is the middleware provider, BitBand is the video server developer and Samsung is providing the set-top boxes and integration services. Versatel has made the live football broadcasts available to ADSL 2+ subscribers and via satellite to those outside the coverage area.

The network operator also has plans to expand its premium video services by adding VOD content in the near future. “Premium sporting broadcasts are a driving force for the IPTV market. Verimatrix continually receives approval from these content providers to protect the integrity of the content and deter piracy. Plus, Versatel has chosen us to prevent cloning of the service and therefore protect their revenue streams, said Steve Oetegenn, executive VP of Verimatrix. “We are thrilled to add Versatel to our growing list of customers in Europe.
