Tut Systems Lands Mid-Atlantic MPEG-4 IPTV Deployment

August 16th, 2005 - Tut Systems Inc. an industry leader enabling the delivery of next-generation data and video services over broadband networks, today announced that Cavalier Telephone selected its Astria® content processor video headend and edge-processing solutions for delivering advanced IPTV services to its customers utilizing its advanced DSL and IP services.

Tut Systems' widely deployed Astria CP platform will serve as the core video processing system for Cavalier's all-MPEG-4 AVC digital headend. To distribute high-quality video reliably and cost-effectively over a large multi-state region, Cavalier can also deploy Astria CP systems for remote content processing solutions in regional cities. To ensure a properly functioning and timely rollout, Tut Systems is providing comprehensive systems integration services, including project management, design, staging, installation and pre-launch testing of the digital headend and remote locations.

"Tut Systems' carrier-class MPEG-4 AVC solution and world-class systems integration services make them an ideal partner for our broadcast video launch," said Andy Lobred, Vice President of Product Development and Marketing for Cavalier Telephone. "We carefully evaluated several solutions and concluded that Tut Systems' Astria content processors deliver the highest video quality at the lowest bandwidth available on the market today."

"As a progressive, forward-thinking CLEC, Cavalier Telephone truly understands the strategic value of delivering a full array of bundled services to its customers," said Mark Tiedeman, Vice President of Marketing for Tut Systems. "Tut Systems is pleased to partner with Cavalier as they are poised for growth with the addition of high-quality video services to their product portfolio."

More than 130 service providers across North America, Europe and Asia deliver IPTV from Tut Systems digital headends. The Astria family of video processing platforms, which serves as the core of the company's digital headend solution, processes both analog and digital video streams from multiple satellite and local sources in a variety of formats. The Astria CP supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC video compression, local ad insertion, forward error correction and provides real-time conditioning for distribution of video and audio over any ATM, IP, or RF broadband network.
