SingTel launches location-based advertising initiative
December 3, 2008 - Singaporean telco SingTel has launched an initiative to attract advertising to its mobile, online and IPTV platforms, according to Asian news portal Digital Media, and is offering an integration bundle package to advertisers featuring location-based advertising.
The bundle will include advertising on its IPTV service 'mio TV', mobile platform SingTel Mobile through location-based advertising (which could potentially be extended to mio TV), and SingTel Online, which includes the homepages of Wireless@SG and mio TV.
There are also reportedly plans to to launch interactive advertising on mio TV, as well as more aggressively push its recently-launched location-based advertising services. “As the biggest telco in Singapore, SingTel’s location-based advertising options are no doubt attractive but the same cannot be said about mio TV and the online channels," said Desh BalaKrishnan, Media Director at Media Planning Group (MPG) Singapore. "It will need to strengthen these further to make them attractive to advertisers.”
SingTel recently reported that it had 46,000 subscribers for mio TV as of the end of the third quarter of this year, with no gains in the period.
