KPN and Reggefiber await go-ahead on €6-7bn FTTH project
November 20, 2008 - Dutch incumbent telco KPN and local fibre-optic provider Reggefiber are awaiting the green light from relevant authorities for their planned joint venture which would roll out a nationwide fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network across the Netherlands at an estimated cost of €6-7bn over the next five to seven years, according to Dutch news portal Trouw.
The two firms are awaiting approval on the proposed joint venture, to be called Glashart, from the Dutch competition authority NMa and telecoms regulator OPTA, the latter of which is expected to release new regulations for the budding local FTTH market later this week. Regulatory approval for KPN's purchase of a 41% stake in Reggefiber is also still pending.
Reggefiber has also rolled out a number of regional fibre-to-the-home networks, covering tens of thousands of subscribers and offering triple-play services including IPTV.
