Aksh Optifibre plans IPTV rollout across Rajasthan state November 19, 2008 - Indian IPTV operator Aksh Optifibre is planning to roll out IPTV services across the state of Rajasthan by the end of this year, reports local news portal Business Standard, following successful launches in the state's major cities of Jaipur, Alwar and Kota.
Launches are to take place in the cities of Udaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer by the end of 2008, and Aksh Optifibre is setting up a network operating centre in Jaipur with investments of INR 300mn (US$ 6mn) in order to support the delivery of IPTV to other cities in the state, according to Ashok Kumar Wahi, Head of Strategic Initiatives for Aksh.
"We have around 3,000 bookings for IPTV in Rajasthan and with three more cities on board, we are expecting a considerable rise in the numbers by this fiscal," said Mr Wahi, adding that the company is aiming to have 70,000 IPTV customers across the country by the the end of this financial year.
Aksh Optifibre, whose other business activities include the manufacture of optical fibre cables, operates IPTV services in Delhi and Mumbai in conjunction with telco Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), and in around 20 other cities in conjunction with another telco called Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL).
The company reportedly aims to extend its presence in 60 cities in the next couple of months, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP (West).
