Portugal Telecom plans home energy monitoring channel for Meo

November 19, 2008 - Portugal Telecom is planning to introduce a new home energy monitoring channel called 'i-Meter' for its pay-TV service 'Meo' (delivered via IPTV and satellite), enabling subscribers to monitor and control their domestic energy consumption, according to company CEO Zeinal Bava.

Mr Bava announced the service at a meeting of the Portuguese Association for the Development of Communications (APDC), adding that it will enable consumers to monitor their consumption and receive advice on energy usage.  "All Meo customers will be able to have access to their consumption figures via a channel on Meo," said Mr Bava.

The proposed service, which should be available within the next few months, is part of an initiative to differentiate Portugal Telecom's IPTV service with the use of in-home technology.
