Korea Telecom adds 102k IPTV subs in Q3
November 18, 2008 - Korea Telecom (KT) added 102,245 subscribers to its IPTV service 'MegaTV' in the third quarter of this year to reach 808,101 by the end of the period.
The telco, which started broadcasting linear programming on the service yesterday, reports that IPTV revenues for the period reached KRW 14.3bn (US$ 9.8mn), an increase of a startling 1027.7% from the KRW 1.3bn posted for the same period of last year. KT also revealed that it had 6,754,027 broadband subscribers at the end of the third quarter of this year, losing 57,080 customers during the three months but still giving a total market share of around 44%.
KT plans to introduce a premium version of MegaTV in June of next year, according to recent reports in local daily The Korea Times, which will provide 80 channels for KRW 23,000 per month.
