BSNL to launch IPTV in state of Himachal next month

October 10, 2008 - Indian telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) is preparing to launch IPTV next month in the state of Himachal Pradesh, in the north-west of India.

“Shimla will become one of the first few cities in India to have BSNL's IPTV service," said Anil Kaushal, BSNL chief (Himachal Pradesh wing). "We are giving final touches to the software system and the tariffs will be announced in the next few days. IPTV will soon be available in 254 centres of the state which have the facility of broadband. Eventually this will be extended to 400 more locations."

Mr Kaushal also said that there are currently over 17,000 broadband customers in the state, and BSNL expects to increase this to 56,000 with the addition of 400 new locations. The telco has also started a festival offer for promoting its broadband services, allowing new customers to receive a 20% discount for a six month period from the date of activation.
