Canby Telcom adds high-def IPTV channels with IP-PRIME
September 30, 2008 - Canby Telcom, a US telco based in the northern Willamette Valley of Oregon, has added over two dozen high-definition channels to its IPTV service 'Canby Digital Television', thanks to assistance from SES AMERICOM's IP-PRIME transport solution.
Canby Telcom, a member of the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), launched its IPTV service in 2005, and now offers over 200 channels, including 36 high-definition channels, an interactive programme guide, video on demand, pay per view and Caller ID on TV. The new channels added thanks to IP-PRIME include Discovery, Disney, Showtime, Fox News, ESPN, A&E and the Food Network, plus a handful of local broadcast services, all delivered in MPEG-4 format to the operator via a singe satellite antenna.
Keith Galitz, President and General Manager of Canby Telcom, said: "We are committed to bringing our customers the latest information, communications and entertainment services to enhance their personal and professional lives. In November 2005, Canby became the first provider of IP television in Oregon, and with HD-4, we are the first to deliver IPTV/HD over copper and fibre to our customers in Canby, Oregon."
SES AMERICOM's IP-PRIME solution enables telecoms operators to add hundred of programming channels to their IPTV service, including up to 40 HD channels, without the high capital and operating expenses required to build and operate a new IPTV headend.
