Deutsche Telekom selects Motorola set-top boxes for T-Home Entertain
September 1, 2008 - Deutsche Telekom has selected high-definition set-top boxes from Motorola for its "T-Home Entertain" IPTV service, which will enable customers to access a variety of multimedia applications in addition to standard TV and also come equipped for future planned services.
Motorola has been contracted to provide its VIP1616E set-top box, which will allow subscribers of T-Home Entertain to view premium sports content in high-definition, as well as use applications such as time-shifted television, digital video recording, multicast and video on demand. No order figures were disclosed.
"As our customers become ever more sophisticated in their media consumption habits, we chose Motorola's set-tops to ensure we provide our customers with the best possible TV service, on-demand and in high-definition as well," commented Christian Illek, Board Member T-HOME, Marketing.
The VIP 1616E is reported to be fully compliant with the Microsoft Mediaroom platform that Deutsche Telekom has selected for its IPTV service. The telco revealed that it had 250,000 customers for its T-Home Entertain IPTV service at the end of the second quarter of this year.
