China Telecom announces winners of IPTV tender

August 26, 2008 - China Telecom has announced the equipment manufacturers it has selected to deliver IPTV technology to its provincial branches as part of a tender launched earlier this year, divided into the three areas of system platforms, standard-definition and high-definition set-top boxes.

For system platforms, the telco's provincial branches can choose from ZTE, UTStarcom and Alcatel-Lucent; for standard-definition set-top boxes, China Telecom selected ZTE, UTStarcom, Coship, Motorola, Huawei, Postcom, Sunniwell, Alcatel-Lucent, Yuxing, 30 Kaitian and Changhong as potential suppliers; and for high-definition set-top boxes, China Telecom selected ZTE, UTStarcom, Alcatel-Lucent, Postcom and Changhong as candidates.

China Telecom also stipulated that its provincial branches cannot instigate a second round of price negotiation or discounting.
