Telefónica to offer low-cost IPTV bundle
August 15, 2008 - Telefónica plans to launch a new, aggressively priced IPTV bundle in its domestic market of Spain, according to reports in local business daily Expansion.
The bundle, called 'Trío Conexión Imagenio', will be aimed at its 4.5mn broadband customers which do not currently receive its "Imagenio" IPTV service, including customers of its 'Duo" double-play bundle. Previously, 'Duo' customers had to pay €6.50 per month extra to rent the Imagenio set-top box, as well as paying for a channel package, with €12 being the cheapest.
Telefonica reportedly plans to now offer Duo customers IPTV for €3 more per month, giving access to all free-to-air and DTT channels and the option to rent on-demand titles and watch football matches via pay-per-view, as well as broadband access and fixed-line calls, for a total of €43.90 per month.
Telefónica reported that it had around 576,000 subscribers for its Imagenio service by the end of the second quarter of this year.
