Telecom Italia adds 80k IPTV subs in H1
August 11, 2008 - Telecom Italia added 80,000 subscribers for its "Alice TV" IPTV service in the first half of this year, reaching a total of 180,000 at the end of June and at its current growth rate it will reach around 260,000 by the end of this year.
Revenue growth for the telco's Internet unit was driven by increased revenues from broadband and content services, which rose by 12.6% and 90% respectively. Telecom Italia's strategy of migrating customers towards higher value offerings to stabilise ARPU continued during the period, with flat-rated broadband packages now accounting for 75% of the entire broadband retail customer portfolio. Total retail broadband customers in its domestic market reached 6.6mn at the end of June.
Total revenues for the first six months of this year fell 3.3% year-on-year to reach €14.838bn, while net income fell 24% by the same comparison to reach €1.14bn.
