Korea Communications Commission to launch public IPTV service "in October"
August 8, 2008 - Korea Communications Commission (KCC) will launch the public IPTV service it was recently revealed to be planning in October, according to local reports, after approving a basic plan for selecting IPTV service providers at a general meeting yesterday.
The KCC has decided to take applications on August 28-29 and review them on September 2-5. Applicants must be companies whose majority shares are owned by Koreans, and their application will evaluated by a panel of broadcasting and communications experts on six categories including public accountability, fairness and public benefit.
Local telcos KT, Hanaro Telecom, LG Dacom and Daum are expected to submit applications.
