Jasmine International prepares to launch IPTV in Thailand
August 7, 2008 - Thai service provider Jasmine International is planning to launch IPTV services in the country in October of this year, as well as online games and VoIP, according to reports in the Bangkok Post.
The moves are described as part of the group's policy to shift its focus to broadband-based services and establish broadband as its flagship business by 2010. Pete Bodharamik, CEO of Jasmine, commented that the company is now ready to move "aggressively" into broadband-based businesses by bundling its services with those of its associated company TT&T Plc. ''We want to take our products and services to the mass market, targeting the modern lifestyle,'' he said.
The IPTV services will reportedly be operated through its subsidiary Triple T Broadband Co, and will include high-definition capable set-top boxes, priced below THB 3,000 (US$ 89.13) each and offering access to 30 free channels, video and karaoke on demand, interactive content and Internet browsing. Jasmine International currently has 300,000 broadband subscribers, and aims to increase this to 500,000 by the end of this year and pass 1mn by 2010.
