Telmex ready to launch IPTV
July 29, 2008 - Mexican telco Telmex has stated that it is ready to launch IPTV in the country and is now only awaiting authorisation from the government to launch the service.
"We have been preparing our telecommunications platform to deliver triple-play services, we are ready to offer IPTV," said Adolfo Cerezo, Director of Finances for the company, at an analysts conference. "How long will it take? I don't know. I would like to have a crystal ball in my hands to give a good estimate, but I assume that it will not take much longer. Telmex has already complied with all that it was requested to comply with."
Telmex has had to comply with a series of conditions to be able to provide IPTV, including allowing other companies to connect to its network and being ready for number portability. Another factor which has delayed Telmex's plans is a government decision over whether the company should pay an additional quota to make changes to its concession and include IPTV as an additional service it can offer.
