Update - UTStarcom deploys IPTV-based video advertising network in China

July 25, 2008 - UTStarcom has provided more information to ipTV News on the deployment by Chinese telco Guangxi Telecom of UTStarcom's RollingStream IPTV platform to power an interactive advertising service in buildings across the Guangxi region in Southern China.

Set-top boxes are to be deployed in office buildings, supermarkets and department stores across a network of advertising terminals, using RollingStream as the core to distribute the advertising, and UTStarcom is to manage and control all terminal screens in the entire province. In the next phase of the deployment, Guangxi Telecom is planning to launch interactive services including video advertising on-demand and traffic information, weather information, financial information and business information, as well as quiz games for shop customers in cooperation with the retail establishments.

Guangxi Telecom executives reportedly expect the new service to combine with their existing advertising services, gradually unify advertising and integrate it with information content to bring new revenue and new profit.
