Elion adds Estonian IPTV subs in Q2
July 21, 2008 - Elion, a subsidiary of Estonian telecom firm Eesti Telekom, ended the second quarter of this year with 67,700 IPTV and cable TV subscribers and 62,800 triple-play subscribers, up from 39,500 and 36,400 respectively from the same period of last year.
Video rental sales were also reported to have increased 201% in the second quarter of this year by the same comparison, and the popularity of the triple-play service has apparently been boosted significantly by the range of additional services provided. A marketing campaign promoting free films is also reported to have increase the rental of paid films in the period. Elion added three channels - Disney Channel, Toon Disney and Playhouse Disney - to its children's package in April, and reports that it ended the second quarter of this year as one of the most popular packages with over 4,000 subscribers.
Across all operations, Eesti Telekom saw its sales revenues fall slightly from €101.1mn in the second quarter of 2007 to €100.1mn in the same period of this year, while net profit reached €6.482mn, down from €6.923 by the same comparison.
