Beltelecom launches IPTV in Minsk

July 18, 2008 - Belarusian telco Beltelecom has launched an IPTV service in Minsk, according to Kanstantsin Tsikar, Director General of the company, speaking at a news conference yesterday.

Mr. Tsikar added that the service will be rolled out to other parts of the country from this autumn. "IPTV will be quite a commercial service on which Beltelecom is planning to earn money," he said. "The service is literally a revolutionary step for us." The executive also said that Beltelecom had received around 500 applications for the service in the first three days.

Subscriptions will cost BYR30,000 (US$14) in a one-off payment and BYR40,000 in monthly charges. The service currently transmits 20 channels.
