Edgeware and Dreampark complete joint integration project
July 10, 2008 - Swedish firms Dreampark and Edgeware, providers respectively of middleware and VOD server systems, have completed a joint integration project with the intention of enabling operators to provide valuable and cost-effective TV services, including network personal video recording (nPVR), time shift TV with trick play, Start Over TV, electronic programme guide and scheduled recordings.
The nPVR features are reportedly ready for commercial deployment with Dreampark's Dreamgallery 3.4 release, which fully supports time shift functions offered by Edgeware's Orbit 2x server platform. The Orbit 2x platform provides instantaneous playout of interactive on-demand streams from ongoing or pre-recorded live channel programmes, with each server capable of recording up to 320 simultaneous live TV channels, while streaming up to its full 20Gbps capacity.
”We see a strong trend among subscribers wanting to plan their TV viewing around their lives, instead of having to plan their lives around their EPG," said Mikael Samuelsson, VP of Sales for Edgeware. "We are pleased to announce that Edgeware and Dreampark can meet this rapidly growing demand by offering one of the first out of the box solutions for nPVR and Time Shifted Live TV. Compared to traditional VOD, these services generate significantly higher take-up rates and revenue opportunities for service providers."
