TeliaSonera selects Verimatrix VCAS
June 24, 2008 - Swedish incumbent TeliaSonera has deployed a content protection solution from Verimatrix to secure its existing IPTV services in the Nordic region, Estonia and Lithuania.
The telco selected Verimatrix VCAS for IPTV to secure its Telia Digital-TV service, launched in 2005 and offering 70 channels including Discovery and the Disney channel as well as an on-demand movie library. VCAS for IPTV is a software-based downloadable solution using a Public Key Infrastructure public/private key pair system and X.509 digital certificates.
Janne Yli-Äyhö, Senior Vice President and Head of TV, Content and Digital Home for TeliaSonera, commented, "We needed a content security solution that we could install quickly and cost-effectively, and given our rapidly-growing subscriber base, it had to have proven scalability. There's no question Verimatrix can deliver iron-clad security for our broadcast and on-demand content. Plus, we were impressed with their ease of integration with our existing platform components."
Telia Digital-TV currently has over 300,000 subscribers in the Nordic region, Estonia and Lithuania.
