O2 TV to pass 100k Czech subscribers "soon"
June 23, 2008 - O2 TV, the IPTV service from Telefónica O2 of the Czech Republic, will exceed 100,000 subscribers "soon", according to the telco, and is offering a new LG LCD television as a gift to the 100,000th customer.
The company added around 14,000 subscribers in the first quarter of this year to reach 87,173 by the end of last March. Telefónica O2 will also be offering an additional HBO film package for six months for one crown (US$0.06) to the first 100 new customers following the landmark 100k figure.
"With the rapid growth in the number of O2 TV digital television subscribers, the selection of channels and the quality of the service have increased," said Jan Karas, Director of Segment Marketing for the telco. "O2 TV is currently the only television service on the Czech market to offer viewers not only a wide range of channels in digital quality, but also a wealth of films and other useful additional services, such as the Videotéka and the TV Archive. As an expression of gratitude for their trust, we have decided to reward not only the 100,000th customer and the hundred that follow this one, but also our current customers. For just CZK 1, they can watch, for instance, the successful Czech film Václav through the Videotéka during the month of July."
Telefónica O2 is also offering a number of promotions to celebrate the 100k milestone, starting with a 50% discount to all new customers off the regular monthly fee for all basic channel packages (O2 TV Zábava, O2 TV Kino, O2 TV Sport) during the first three months of service usage. New subscribers also get activation, the modem, set-top box rental, and service installation for one crown each. Lastly, the telco is offering all customers the opportunity to watch new channels for two months with no obligation, and for CZK1 per month can get one or all of the following additional packages: Filmy plus (Film plus), Sport plus, Dokumenty plus (Documentary plus), and Děti plus (Children plus).
