Portugal Telecom passes 100,000 subscribers for Meo
June 19, 2008 - Portugal Telecom has exceeded 100,000 customers for its "Meo" IPV service, reaching its end-2008 target six months early.
The telco added 53,000 Meo subscribers in the second quarter of this year, more than double the figure for the previous three months. Portugal Telecom reports that it had 47,000 subscribers at the end of March of this year. The success is attributed to a variety of teams that have worked on developing the service, including technicians, strategic management, customer services and marketing and communications.
"They are the people, it is their quality and creative talent, that made the difference," said Zeinal Bava, CEO of Portugal Telecom. Meo's content lineup was enhanced in April of this year when the service started offering the Disney channel and Portugal Telecom signed a partnership with TV1 for free-to-air broadcasts in high-definition. Meo will also broadcast the Beijing Olympic Games in high-definition this year, in partnership with Eurosport.
