Microsoft adds new partners to Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV ecosystem
June 16, 2008 - Microsoft has added a raft of new partners to its Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV ecosystem, ranging from new system integrator partners to Quality of Service (QoS) solution providers and an encoder supplier.
System integrators Hewlett-Packard, Tech Mahindra and 180Squared have entered the ecosystem, joining sole end-to-end integrator Alcatel-Lucent. The addition of these system integrators is intended to provide service providers around the world with high-quality vendors to assist with deployments of Microsoft Mediaroom-powered service offerings.
QoS providers Agilent and IneoQuest have also joined the Microsoft Mediaroom ecosystem, helping service providers to deliver high levels of Quality of Service when using the Mediaroom platform for their IPTV services and retain customers. Specific measurement and performance indicators to be provided by the two companies include effective packet loss, analysis of audiovisual bit rates, ongoing assessment of instant channel-changing effectiveness and continual observation of round-trip latency between Mediaroom servers and clients.
Finally, encoder vendor Harris has also joined the Mediaroom ecosystem with its NetVX SD video encoding solution. Microsoft claims that 2mn subscribers worldwide are now watching IPTV services on Mediaroom-powered networks, and reports that while it took 18 months to reach 1mn (in the first quarter of this year), it took only five months to reach the second million.
