Widevine adds NAT and hardware acceleration to Cypher
June 11, 2008 - Widevine has added new capabilities to its Cypher digital rights management (DRM) solution to enhance operators' ability to quickly and affordably secure content between multiple devices within a home network.
Widevine Cypher 4.2 now includes hardware acceleration within the Sigma Designs 8364 secure processor on Cisco IP set-top boxes and DVRs, supporting enhanced services such as multi-room DVR. It also supports network address translation (NAT) for unlimited expansion of the consumer's home network to include set-top boxes, DVRs, PCs, handsets and portable media players.
In an interview with ipTV News today, Widevine's Vice President of Marketing Matt Cannard said: "We feel that we are at the forefront of downloadable conditional access/digital rights management, which is a key enabler to adding an unlimited number of devices. Consumers are now asking to connect their existing devices to operator services, which will also give operators the flexibility to adopt new business models, and Cypher's new capabilities facilitate this."
Cypher 4.2 is available immediately for telco, satellite, cable, Internet and mobile operators.
