Verizon to add over 60 channels to FiOS TV this summer
June 11, 2008 - Verizon has revealed it will add over 60 channels to its lineup for FiOS TV this summer, including more than 25 high-definition channels.
The number of high-definition channels available will accordingly rise this summer to range between 52 and 65, depending on the market, and the company has reaffirmed that it aims to offer 150 high-definition channels by the end of this year. New channels to be added this summer include Lifetime, Animal Planet, TLC, Science Channel, Smithsonian Channel and Outdoor Channel, while subscribers to the Movie Package will receive five new HD channels from Starz Entertainment and Showtime Networks.
"We are aggressively acquiring high-quality programming in both standard and high definition that appeals to a broad array of viewers," said Terry Denson, Vice President of Content and Programming in a statement. The new channels will be added from early July and will be activated in all FiOS markets over the next few months.
New channels expected to be added at a later date include Setanta Sports and multicultural programming including MBT (Arabic), RTPI (Portuguese) and RTR Paneta (Russia). According to latest figures FiOS TV currently has around 1.2mn subscribers.
